PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh celebrated Technology Day on 15th May 2015 to commemorate the series of successful nuclear testing - Pokhran II conducted on 11 May, 1998. Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Associate Professor welcomed the chief guest Prof. Arun Kumar Grover, Vice chancellor, Panjab University, Prof. Ashok Ganguli, Director, Institute of Nano-Science and Technology (INST), Mohali and Prof. Manoj Arora, Director, PEC University of Technology. Prof. Manoj Arora inaugurated the session by welcoming all the CRIKC (Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster) members and then emphasized on the need to collaborate and collectively research and innovate. He also praised the research efforts of the two centers of excellence of PEC in the field of cyber-security and industry design. The chief speaker of the event was Prof. Ashok Ganguli who has been awarded the MRSI, CRSI medals and is also a fellow of the Indian Academic Scientists. After the inaugural address by Dr. Manoj K. Arora, the expert lecture on "Emerging trends in Nano Technology" was delivered by Prof. Ganguli in which he introduced the revolutionary concepts of nanotechnology, presented the statistics on the growth of nanotechnology and emphasized on the wide ranging applications of the emerging field from use of platinum nanowires in memory circuits to the usage of nanoparticles in the gene therapy. He also shared the research subject of his colleague Dr. K Kailasam at INST which was the prototype reactor for hydrogen generation using nanostructure electrodes. The development of the path-breaking single stage water purifier using hollow nanostructures was the main subject of his talk. The event was coordinated by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar, Associate Professor and Dr. Arun Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor. This was followed by a meeting of the CRIKC members. Prof. Arun Grover then welcomed the new CRIKC members -Rayat Bahra Group, Chitkara University and Chandigarh University. He then identified the urgent need for collaboration between academia and industry to make India a major player in the field of science and technology. The subject of the meeting was the establishment of a design innovation centre to promote engineering design culture and deciding on the structuring of the CRIKCS as an organization. Various proposals were put forward in achieving these goals.
