Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, celebrated the International Day of Yoga on the 21st of June 2026, with great enthusiasm and active participation from students, faculty members, and staff. The event was organised under the aegis of the Ministry of AYUSH to promote physical fitness, mental well-being, and a healthy lifestyle through the practice of yoga.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the organising team, followed by the Common Yoga Protocol session conducted under the guidance of certified yoga instructors. Participants enthusiastically performed various yoga asanas, pranayama, and meditation, highlighting the significance of yoga in maintaining physical health, mental peace, and emotional balance.
Addressing the gathering, Director Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia emphasized the importance of yoga as a way of life, encouraging everyone to adopt it as a regular practice for overall well-being. He highlighted the importance of breathing exercises and meditation in achieving mental clarity and inner balance. He encouraged participants to focus their energy between the eyebrows during meditation while visualizing the deity or spiritual figure they believe in, such as Lord Krishna, Lord Ram, or Jesus Christ, according to their faith. Sharing his own experience, he mentioned that he personally practices breathing exercises and emphasized that there is no fixed duration for such practice, as even a few mindful minutes every day can contribute significantly to one’s physical and mental health.
The Instructor also explained the scientific and holistic benefits of yoga and guided participants through various breathing techniques and postures aimed at improving flexibility, concentration, and stress management. Participants were encouraged to incorporate these practices into their daily routine for a healthier and more balanced lifestyle.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Institute Director, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Dean, Student Affairs(DSA), Prof. D.R. Prajapati, Registrar, Ms. Shobhana Dhiman, many other senior faculty members, staff members, campus residents, and the PEC students, reflecting the institute’s commitment towards fostering a culture of health, wellness, and holistic development among the PEC community.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all the dignitaries, yoga instructors, faculty members, staff, student volunteers, and participants for their valuable contribution to the successful organisation of the event. Refreshments were served to all the participants. The celebration reaffirmed Punjab Engineering College's commitment to promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being through the timeless practice of yoga.
