Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), a renowned hub for innovation and academic excellence, recently hosted a State level Competition in Painting and Decorating. The Skill India Competition, held on 18 March 2024, proved to be an inspiring exposure to budding Bachelor of Design students. Students from the newly started B.Des. Programme at PEC volunteered for the competition.
The event, organized under the Skill India initiative, aimed to foster a culture of skill development and creative talent among the youth. It brought together BDes students and participants from diverse backgrounds, all united by their passion for design and creativity. The painting and decorating Competition motivated design students and inspired them to take part in creative competitions.
During this Competition, 3D Additive Manufacturing Process is used under which Data Wrap 3D Printer is used to produce a model developed by the competitors. This process is highly advanced to produce geometric components, which further can be used for the purpose of prototype modelling.
Simultaneously, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) is also used. This advanced machine is used to produce moles and dice which are produced with very high procedure and accuracy, otherwise are much difficult to produce on other conventional machines. The competitors were given moulds as per the given specifications in the prescribed period, out of which best ones were also sorted out and will be given further training under the skill India mission.
Most of the machines which are used for this competition are from the Production & Industrial Engineering Department (PIED) and Electrical Engineering Department (EED). This competition was held under the supervision of Prof. R. M. Belokar (Head, PIED) and Prof. R.S. Walia (Head, Workshop & Skill Development Centre). This had been Coordinated by Dr. Rahul O Vaishya, Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Dr. Manohar Singh and Dr. Vaibhao Govindrao Athaley.
The Skill India Competition held at PEC stands as a testament to the institution's commitment to nurturing talent and fostering innovation. By empowering students to unleash their creative potential, it paves the way for a brighter, more vibrant future for the design industry.
