The inaugural ceremony of a short-term course on "Numerical Modelling for Geotechnical Applications through Plaxis 2D/3D" was held at Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh. The course is being organized by the Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) Chandigarh Chapter, in collaboration with Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Ropar, and M/S. Innovative Systel, SAS Nagar, Mohali. The short-term course aims to equip participants with advanced skills in numerical modelling using Plaxis 2D/3D software, focusing on its application in geotechnical engineering.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with a warm floral welcome to the Chief Guest, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director (Ad Interim), PEC, setting a gracious and enthusiastic tone for the event. The traditional lamp-lighting ceremony followed, with Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia and other distinguished dignitaries participated, symbolizing the illumination of knowledge and the beginning of an enlightening educational journey. Prof. S. K. Singh, President of the Indian Geotechnical Society Chandigarh Chapter and Head of the Civil Engineering Department at PEC, delivered a heartfelt welcome address. He provided an overview of the short-term course, highlighting its significance in modern geotechnical engineering and the practical advantages of using Plaxis 2D/3D software. Mr. Rominder Singh Bedi, Founder-CEO of Innovative Systel, shared his expert insights on the practical applications and advancements in geotechnical modelling, emphasizing the relevance and importance of the course content. In his inaugural address, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia underscored the essential role of such advanced training programs in bridging the gap between academic learning and industry needs. He praised the collaborative effort in organizing the course and encouraged participants to leverage this opportunity for their professional growth. Dr. Naveen James, Secretary of the Indian Geotechnical Society Chandigarh Chapter and Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Ropar, extended a vote of thanks. He expressed gratitude to all the collaborators, dignitaries, and participants for their support and active involvement in making the event a success. The short term course drew students from renowned institutes like PEC Chandigarh, IIT Guwahati, IIT Ropar, IIT Jammu, NIT Jalandhar, NIT Surat, and professionals from CBRI Roorkee, CWPRS, Pune and MERI Nashik among others.
