The Conference on Industrial and Manufacturing Systems (CIMS-2021) has been inaugurated at PEC, Chandigarh. Mr Rajender Gupta, Chairman, BoG, PEC Chandigarh and Chairman of Trident group of companies was the chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. Prof HS Shan from IIT Roorkee, Prof Lalit Kumar Awasthi - Director of NIT Hamirpur and Prof R K Garg - Director of NITJ were the guests of honour.
CIMS 2021 has been jointly organised by the Production and Industrial Engineering Department, Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh & Dr B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar in association with Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology and Indira Gandhi Delhi Technological University for women, Delhi. The international conference with more than 300 academically rich deliberations would discuss the innovative solutions to a plethora of modern problems and challenges faced by modern industries in the next 3 days (11th-13th Nov. 2021). The event took place in a hybrid mode with strict covid protocols being followed by the offline attendees. The event was also broadcasting live on PECs official youtube page.
The guests of honor in the conference each had over 30 years of academic and industrial experience under their belt. Prof Lalit Kumar Awasthi, former Director of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology and founding faculty of Computer Science and Engineering Department at National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur. He has pushed and prioritized research in various institutes at different levels from having over 200 of his own publications to guiding other scholars. Prof RK Garg, Director of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, is an editor of 8 journals amongst countless other achievements and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Expert. Prof. HS Shan is the Advisor to organizations including the Times of India Group and has been the former professor and Head of Mechanical Department, IIT Roorkee. He was recently awarded with a lifetime achievement award for his outstanding contributions in the area of Manufacturing Technology, Design & Research. Apart from these guests of honour, various dignified professors from abroad were also a part of the event.
Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr) Baldev Setia during his welcome note stated, the scientific event is expected to provide a vibrant platform to present and discuss path-breaking research ideas in the manufacturing industry. “I am sure that CIMS 2021 will bring together global talent, focusing on excellent opportunities for the latest development in the area of Engineering and Technology” he said.
Dean Academic of NITJ Prof (Dr) Anish Sachdeva (Chairman CIMS-2021) mentioned that the prime motive of CIMS 2021 is to seek a new window for discovery and exploration in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering which plays a major role in almost all fields of scientific growth. “We feel privileged to have a Web of Sciences and Scopus indexed journals in the fields of production and industrial engineering from well-reputed publishers like Taylor & Francis and Springer as our publication partners”, he said.
Head PIED, PEC Prof (Dr) R S Walia (Chairman CIMS-2021) proclaimed that the international conference will be providing a platform for the young researchers to discuss their innovative ideas with various contemporaries and experts around the globe. “We are privileged to host a congregation of world renowned scholars and experts as keynote speakers, who have gathered for this conference to grace us with their words of wisdom in their fields of expertise. We feel proud in saying that the first edition CIMS 2020 was a huge success and in this edition of the conference we have maintained similar standards and touched new heights. We have received 362 technical papers from top institutions in India and abroad out of which more than 280 were selected after a rigorous peer review”, he announced.
During the three-day conference, six eminent keynote speakers including Dr. Kumar Krishen, University of Houston USA (formerly Chief Technologist NASA USA), Dr. Wolfgang Borutzky Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University, Germany, Dr. J Haider, Manchester Metropolitan University UK, Prof Pradeep Kumar from IIT Roorkee, India, Prof Yigit Kazancoglu, Yasar University, Turkey, Mr. Tarun Kumar Senior Program Manager- Amazon Operations, USA, will be addressing challenges related to modern manufacturing, green supply chain, decision making in industry, bond graph modeling and space exploration.
Dr R S Walia in his concluding remarks said that this scientific gathering will provide ample opportunity to faculty, students and researchers to learn about new innovations in the rapidly changing manufacturing and industrial scenario and to make India self-sufficient by developing sustainable and economical technology The first day of this conference was a major success and reflects PECs position as a symbol of research and innovation in India. The director’s vision for PEC the centenary year perfectly aligns with the intentions of today’s event to promote research culture in the institute. Research and technical innovations are day by day touching newer heights here at PEC and this event was a bona fide testament to it. This event provided an opportunity for students to receive a diverse exposure from international institutes and expand their hindsight.
