He talked about the journey of the importance of materials and where we stand, the challenges we face and how we can integrate ourselves to resolve all the challenges that lie before us. He stated that it is the 3Ms (Man, Material, Machine) which actually dictate the engineering aspect or the technological aspect. These three simple words encompass the development of technology, the development of products, and systems. For the current session, he focused on the properties, importance and applications of various materials.
Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC while addressing the audience stated the importance of the department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, PEC, the rich knowledge and research that the department has conducted and imparted and its immense contributions to the development of the country. He also talked about the importance and existence of metals, metallurgical & materials engineering in established and unestablished forms since ancient times. Talking about the importance of research, he mentioned that the research and its outcome have to be accepted by the society. He congratulated the organisers for providing such interactive and learning platforms to the students and encouraged the participants to share their ideas and motivated them to make the most of these two days.
The Session Continued with an Inaugural keynote Lecture on “Materials Research Directions- A Perspective” by Dr Harpreet Singh, Professor, IIT Ropar.
