The Computer Centre, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, in association with the Production and Industrial Engineering Department (PEC) organized an Expert Lecture on Smart Cities by Dr. Sanjay Batish, Head Computer Centre, PEC on 23rd February, 2023. Prof. Ravinderjit Singh Walia, Head of the Production and Industrial Engineering Department, PEC, was the Chief Guest for the session and Sh. Sushil Kumar, Network Administrator and Sh. Prabhsimran Singh Bindra, Network Administrator were coordinators for the lecture.
Dr. Sanjay Batish started his lecture by focusing on Cloud Computing, Mobile Sensors, Computer Networks and Information Security. He also updated the audience about the developments that are taking place in UT Chandigarh, which aim to improve public transportation through mobile sensing. The lecture comprised theoretical as well as practical sessions. The use of IoT in modern Smart Cities, such as Smart Homes, Smart Transport, Introduction to Fog Computing, and how to build IoT Devices, were some of the topics discussed during the lecture.
This lecture was an introduction to the world of the Internet of Things (IoT) for the participants who learnt the planning and creation of IoT Web Applications, including the information architecture and user interface. As a part of the session, participants worked on the Raspberry Pi to design and develop practical IoT devices while learning programming and computer hardware. In addition, participants learned how to set up the Raspberry Pi environment.
Dr. Ravinderjit Walia gave a vote of thanks to the Coordinator, Dr. Sanjay Batish and his team for providing the platform for organizing Expert Lectures on such innovative technologies. The lecture was attended by students from various institutes across India.
