The Physics Department of PEC, Chandigarh conducted expert lecture entitled “Metasurfaces: The Building Blocks of Tomorrow's Optical Technologies” on February 27, 2024 in Seminar Hall of the Department. Prof. Mohsen Rahmani , Leader of the Advanced Optics and Photonics (AOP) Lab, School of Science and Technology, Nottingham Trent University, UK was the speaker for this event. Prof Rahmani is renowned scientist and has several prestigious fellowships and awards to his credit including Australian Eureka Prize (Australian Oscar of Science), Early Career Medal from the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics, Australian Optical Society Geoff Opat Award, Australian Research Council Early Career Fellowship, Royal Society Wolfson Fellowship, and UK Research and Innovation Future Leaders Fellowship. The talk was centered towards using different materials for diverse societial applications ranging from early diagnosis of diseaeas, night-vision, and NIR imaging. The speaker introduced different relevant concepts in easy manner and demonstrated the practical applications for innovative solutions towards current societial problems throught the usage of optics, nanomaterials and integrated diagnsotics. Prof Rahmani also discussed different collaborative opportunities available for students and faculty members at UK. The speaker received huge appreciation for the lecture from the audience. Professor Sandeep Kumar introduced the speaker to the audience and coordinated the event. Professor Sanjeev Kumar, Head, Physics Department felicitated the speaker and thanked him for sparing time for his talk and interaction with students and faculty members. The lecture was attended by research scholars and faculty members of different departments.
