The Department of Production and Industrial Engineering, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, today concluded a week long DST-KARYASHALA (High-End workshop) under ACCELERATE VIGYAN PROGRAMME on SMART MANUFACTURING AND CIRCULAR ECONOMY with a valedictory ceremony . Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, Director NIT-Srinagar was the guest of honour of the session. Prof Baldev Setia, Director PEC, Prof. Ravinderjit Singh Walia, Head Production & Industrial Engineering Department also graced the occasion with their presence.
The event started with a brief introduction about the workshop and the department of Production & Industrial Engineering by Prof Ravinderjit Singh Walia and Dr. Gurpreet Singh.
Prof. Rakesh Sehgal, Director NIT-Srinagar shared his journey of working on the design of bearings Tribology, Journal circular bearing and non-circular hydrodynamic journal bearing that was still an untouched topic back then. Currently his team is working on biomaterials and coatings in the area of materials using all the technology available at NIT Srinagar. He congratulated the organising team for conducting such informative and hands-on training workshops.
Prof Baldev Setia, Director PEC, complimented NIT Srinagar and the Department of Production and Industrial Engineering for their continuous efforts in uplifting educational standards by organising such workshops and conferences.
The session progressed with the felicitation ceremony and participants sharing their wonderful experience of learning during the workshop.
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Jimmy Karloopia.
The workshop started on 20th FEBRUARY, 2023 with an aim to provide information on the fundamentals, current trends, and problems in the area of smart manufacturing technologies and circular economy. 25 participants (mostly Masters and Ph.D. Research Scholars) from renowned institutions like IIT Roorkee, IIT-BHU, MNNIT Allahabad, NIT Srinagar, DTU Delhi, UPES Dehradun, Gautam Buddha University Greater Noida, YMCA Faridabad and S.I.E.T Nelokheri, etc. attended the week long workshop.
The workshop was organised with the goal of promoting knowledge-sharing and collaboration among different institutions. The workshop covers major areas like smart manufacturing, additive manufacturing, circular economy, industry 4.0 & 5.0, supply chain management, automation, robotics, manufacturing & applications of semiconductors, polymers, ceramics, thermal coatings, Smart City concepts, Industrial Tribology and Sustainable Manufacturing. The event features experts and their insightful lectures, interactive sessions, laboratory visits and hands-on practice in state-of-the-art facilities of the department that provides participants with an opportunity to learn, train, network, and engage in insightful conversations.
Expert lectures by renowned keynote speakers were organised for the participants and in addition the participants visited various laboratories within the Department of Production and Industrial Engineering. Participants also got hands-on-practice on facilities and equipment in several other departmental labs/centres including Centre of Excellence Siemens, Department of Metallurgy and Materials, Department of Applied physics, Smart City Innovation Centre and Semiconductor Research Centre.
