Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh held its 101st Senate Meeting on 18th January 2023 to discuss improvements and changes in policy to be made for the academic year. The Senate meeting was presided over by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC and was attended by Deans, Heads of Departments and other Institute Functionaries. Some of the major agendas discussed at the meeting were the Composition of the Senate, Revisiting PhD rules, BTech MTech Admission Analysis, Placement Status of PEC and other regular discussions.
The Institute has proposed a hybrid model to ensure representation to all professors and deans and allow their participation in academic decision-making for the betterment of the Institute. The proposed senate consists of all deans, all Head of Departments, All Professors, a Librarian, the Head Computer Centre, the Head of Career Development & Guidance Centre, 1 Associate Professor, 1 Assistant Professor for one year on a rotation basis and three external members belonging to Science and Technology, Social Sciences and one seat will be reserved for a female candidate. The Proposal will be submitted to the Board of Governors for final approval in the next BoG meeting.
PEC has adopted the coursework as latest notified by the Gazette of India. To improve the quality output in research published in the Institute, it was proposed to have three papers published by the PhD research scholars during their PhD program, 1paper to be published in SCI Journal (Mandatory), 2 in SCIE/ SCOPUS/Web of Science or 2 papers in SCI Journal. The Institute has also uploaded the completed thesis for 2022 on Shodhganga and is following anti-plagiarism rules as per Shodhganga.
The meeting continued with B.Tech. and M.Tech. admissions analysis for the current session and after much deliberation, it was decided that reorientation of seats maybe done within the departments, to have better performance and produce quality output that can contribute to the demanding fields of engineering in the current times and future.
As one of the major agendas, the placement status of PEC of 2022-23 session was placed by Prof. J.D Sharma. PEC set new record for highest CTC for the placement in 2022-23. The placement of five students in Software profile got the annual package of 83 LPA (lakhs per Annum). Aman, Dhruv Purwar, Deepanshu Jindal, Amisha from Computer science and Ankit Sood from Electronics Engineering are the selects. Last year’s highest package was 64.5 LPA and this year theres a rise of 27% YoY basis.
149 students received Pre-placement offer from different companies which is also highest in the records of the PEC institute till date. This rise is 19% than last year’s Pre placements. Till date 467 offers have been extended by different companies to PEC students by December 2022. The placement for session 2022-23 will continue for next 6 Months. More companies are lined up in coming weeks.
This year in 2023 CDGC offered 350 Internships which is highest number of offers ever recorded by PEC, which includes the companies like American Express, P&G JP Morgan, Goldmann Sachs, Mckinsey etc. Uber India offered the highest internship stipend of 1.6 lakh per month to Kanika Kaur from Computer Science and P&G offered 1.5 lakh to our 2 students Anshul Banwala of Electronics and Yashi Singhal of Production Engineering on zero day of Internship cycle 2022-23.
The highest package in Mechanical engineering Department is 40.10 Lakh offered to Charu Modi, which is rise of 186% highest percentage rise in CTC on YoY basis. This is highest package recorded by any Mechanical student at PEC through Campus placement. The average package of Electronics & Communication Engineering rose to 20.99 in present year from 15. 63 in 2021-22 which is a rise of 34.3%. Computer Science department has average CTC of 24.24 lakh which is 11% higher than last year. Electrical Department has average package of 15.29 which is 32.8% higher in year on year basis..
