Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today inaugurated the newly constructed Kurukshetra Hostel and Mess at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, through virtual mode. Constructed at an estimated cost of approximately ₹40 crore, the new facility marks a significant milestone in strengthening the residential and student-support infrastructure of the institute.
The inauguration was held in the august presence of Shri Gulab Chand Kataria, Governor of Punjab and Administrator, Union Territory of Chandigarh; Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers; Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister of Railways, Information and Broadcasting, and Electronics and Information Technology; and Shri Manish Tewari, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh.
The newly developed hostel has been designed to provide students with a safe, comfortable and conducive residential environment. The facility includes modern accommodation, a well- equipped mess, common areas and other essential amenities required for the day-to-day needs of students.
The addition of the Kurukshetra Hostel and Mess is expected to significantly enhance PEC’s residential capacity and provide improved boarding and lodging facilities to students coming from different parts of the country. The building has been developed with a contemporary architectural design and functional spaces aligned with the existing character of the institute
The project reflects the Government of India’s continued commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure and improving the overall academic and residential experience of students. The PEC community expressed its gratitude and described the inauguration as an important step in the institute’s ongoing growth and development.
