Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh (Deemed to be University), organised a training session on “Introduction to Internet of Things (IoT)” at its Computer Centre as part of the DTE Punjab Diploma Student Training Programme under the RAMP Project, being conducted from November 2 to 5, 2026, through the Workshop & Skill Development Centre, PEC.
The training programme is being organised under the leadership of Prof. Ravinderjit Walia, Principal Investigator and Organiser. The IoT session was coordinated by Dr. Sanjay Batish, Course Coordinator, along with Mr. Sushil Kumar and Prabhsimran Singh Bindra, Co-Coordinators.
The session aimed to familiarise diploma students with emerging technologies through a combination of theoretical instruction and hands-on practical exposure. Students were introduced to the fundamental concepts of IoT, its architecture, key components and applications in everyday life and industry.
Special emphasis was placed on Raspberry Pi, sensors and IoT hardware components. Through practical demonstrations, students explored the functioning of different sensors, their interfacing with Raspberry Pi and the basic principles of collecting and processing data from connected devices.
The session also highlighted the applications of IoT in smart homes, healthcare, agriculture, industrial automation and smart cities. The interactive learning approach enabled students to understand how physical devices, sensors and computing platforms work together to develop intelligent and connected systems.
The training provided students with an opportunity to strengthen their technical understanding and gain practical familiarity with emerging technologies beyond conventional classroom learning.
The initiative forms part of PEC's continued efforts to promote skill development, practical learning and industry-relevant technical education, equipping diploma students with foundational knowledge of technologies increasingly being adopted across various sectors.
