The Speakers Association and Study Circle (SAASC) at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh wrapped up the 15th edition of Union Bank of India presents Trivium, its annual debating championship, held from October 26th to 28th, 2024.
Conducted in the Asian Parliamentary format, the three-day event attracted young debaters from prominent institutions across India, including IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, Delhi Technological University (DTU), Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, National Institute of Technology Jalandhar (NITJ), and National Law School of India University (NLSIU), among others.
This year’s edition featured a series of high-caliber debates marked by analytical depth, effective rhetoric, and dynamic exchanges.
- The team comprising Mahor, Angad, and V. Sayiram, an IIT Bombay and DTU cross team, emerged as winners in the Open Category, demonstrating remarkable strategic insight and cohesive teamwork.
- The Runners-Up title went to Hridhik, Riyan, and Himan Nayak from DTU, who brought formidable competition to the final round.
- V. Sayiram was named Best Speaker of the event, recognized for his eloquence and persuasive prowess.
- In the Novice Category, Tejaswa Singh Mehra, Udit Agarwal, and Yashaswi Purohit from IIT Delhi were declared Novice Winners, standing out for their promising potential.
- Saatvik Dabral from DTU was recognized as Best Adjudicator for his discerning judgment, while Krishaang Kohli from DDUC received the title of Best Invited Adjudicator for his expertise and invaluable contributions.
The event was presided over by Prof. Amandeep Kaur as the event convener, with Amisha Kanwar and Ritvik Arora leading as Student Conveners. Organized under the esteemed guidance of Dr. D.R. Prajapati, Dean of Student Affairs, and Dr. Puneet Chawla, Associate Dean of Student Affairs (Clubs), their efforts ensured the seamless execution of this prestigious event, which has become a hallmark of PEC’s commitment to fostering intellectual engagement and oratory skill among students.
