Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, organised two separate orientation programmes on August 18 and 19, 2026, to welcome the newly admitted M.Tech Batch of 2028 and B.Tech Batch of 2026–30, respectively. The two-day orientation programmes were aimed at familiarising the new students with the institute’s academic environment, leadership, research and innovation opportunities, student activities, facilities and vibrant campus life.
The orientation programme for the M.Tech Batch of 2028, held on Tuesday, August 18, at the Senate Hall, commenced with a formal welcome to the newly admitted students, followed by the inaugural lamp-lighting ceremony. Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, PEC, addressed the students and welcomed them to the institute. The programme featured insightful addresses by Prof. S. K. Mangal, Dean Academic Affairs; Dr. Puneet Chawla, Dean Student Affairs; Prof. Umesh Sharma, Dean, Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy (SRIC); Dr. Sanjay Kumar Batish, Head, Computer Centre; Dr. J. D. Sharma, Head, Career Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC); and Dr. Seema Vasishta, Senior Librarian.
The dignitaries apprised the M.Tech students of the institute’s academic framework, research opportunities, student activities, computing and technological facilities, career development resources and library services. The programme also featured a documentary showcasing the institute, followed by an introduction to various student clubs by the Chief Club Secretary (CCS) and technical societies by the Chief Secretary Technical Societies (CSTS). The orientation concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by departmental visits and research-related interactions. The students interacted with faculty members, visited departmental laboratories and research facilities, and familiarised themselves with their respective departments. An institute tour further provided them with an opportunity to explore the PEC campus and its academic ecosystem.
The second orientation programme, held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, welcomed the B.Tech Batch of 2026–30. The programme commenced with the formal welcome of the newly admitted students, followed by the inaugural lamp-lighting ceremony. Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, Director, PEC, addressed the students and extended a warm welcome to the Batch of 2030. The programme also featured addresses by Dr. Sanjiv Kumar, Officiating Dean Academic Affairs; Dr. Puneet Chawla, Dean Student Affairs; and Dr. Sanjay Kumar Batish, Head, Computer Centre, who introduced the students to the academic framework, student development opportunities, institutional resources and technological facilities available at PEC.
A major highlight of the B.Tech orientation was the presence of Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Ahuja interacted with the newly admitted students and delivered an insightful address, encouraging them to think beyond conventional boundaries, embrace innovation and pursue their aspirations with purpose.
The B.Tech orientation also featured a documentary highlighting the rich history, legacy and achievements of PEC. This was followed by departmental visits, during which students interacted with their respective Heads of Departments and faculty members and visited departmental laboratories. The visits provided them with valuable insights into their academic and technical journey at the institute.
Both orientation programmes concluded with votes of thanks, expressing gratitude to the dignitaries, faculty members, students and organising teams. The two-day orientation programmes marked the beginning of new academic journeys for the M.Tech Batch of 2028 and the B.Tech Batch of 2026–30, setting the stage for their academic growth, research engagement, professional development and holistic development at Punjab Engineering College.
