PEC Chandigarh in recent years becomes a hub in Geospatial Technology under the headship of Director Dr. Manoj K Arora, who is an authority in this field. Under his dynamic leadership, PEC is receiving funds for establishing labs, cells, Smart Innovation Centre in the geospatial field. He always motivates faculty and students of PEC to participate in various conferences and events related to the same.
Under his guidance, PEC Team consisting of faculty mentor Har Amrit Singh, students Vinayak Kalra, Aakansha Bahmani, Panav Gupta and Kunal Bhatia participated in the prestigious national App making competition organized by leading Geographical Information System (GIS) software and solution provider ESRI India Ltd at New Delhi. Team performed exceptionally well and bagged 2nd runner up position, which consists of Trophy and cash prize worth Rs 50 thousand. This challenge involves more than 100 teams of different university from all over India and in the final round only 10 teams were called to present their application (app). Team shared that the basic theme of this App is Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in sync with initiatives of GOI and useful in locating public utilities like toilets. This is very useful for Ladies and disabled persons as this not only provide location, but gives the rating, photo, location, timings etc. Moreover, one can navigate the location for the same too. Another important aspect of the application that it has exhaustive list of public toilets, Petrol pumps, Government buildings also. Judges appreciated the idea and motivated the team to expand further by adding other public utilities also.
