The Siemens Center of Excellence established in Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh has commenced two online Short Term Courses w.e.f. 24th Feb to 28th Feb, 2022 namely, “Digital Manufacturing” coordinated by Dr. S. M. Salodkar and Dr. Ankit Yadav and “Additive Manufacturing” coordinated by Dr. Sumankant and Er. Suresh Chand. This is an initiative taken by the center towards training and imparting advanced skills to comply with Industry 4.0 standards and trigger a series of annual academic workshops and courses. Both courses will be open to faculty and students from PEC as well as interested participants from other higher educational institutes.
The initiative was motivated by the Director, Dr. Baldev Setia in order to deliver sound technical education through state-of-the-art technologies and to improve the skill set of the participants according to the demand of the industry as well as academia. The opening ceremony was graced by the Deputy Director of PEC, Prof. Siby John, who enlightened all the participants with the need of the technology to align the engineering education with latest industry trends and practices. The event was attended by Dean Students Affairs Prof. Sanjeev Kumar, and HoD Civil Prof. Umesh Sharma, HoD Mechanical Prof S.K. Mangal, HoD Computer Science Prof. Shailendra Singh, faculty, staff, and students.
During the inaugural address, Program Director, Prof. Rajendra M. Belokar mentioned the benefits of the courses and explored different approaches that can be helpful to deal with the problems of tomorrow in the domain of Digital and Additive Manufacturing. It is for the first time the STC’s with the industry experts participation was introduced by CoE to make the participant industry ready. During the one-week schedule, there are domain-specific experts from industry and academia to deliver their talks. With the end of the inaugural session, it was announced that the center has already begun planning to conduct workshops, training programs, symposia and conferences in different domains like Mechatronics, Industrial IoT, Power Systems and Renewable Energy and Robotics in the near future.
