Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh organised a “Run for Swadeshi (Swadeshi Sankalp Run)” programme on 12th January, 2026, to mark the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, which is observed every year as National Youth Day. The day commemorates Swami Vivekananda’s timeless message of youth empowerment, self-belief, discipline, character-building, and nation-building.
As part of the celebrations, a 5 km run was organised within the campus, witnessing enthusiastic participation from students and cadets. The programme commenced with a motivational address by Dr. D. R. Prajapati, Dean of Student Affairs, who inspired the runners by highlighting the relevance of Swami Vivekananda’s ideals in shaping a strong, disciplined, and self-reliant youth. The event was graced by the presence of Dr. Sandeep Harit (ADSA Sports), Dr. Ajay Kumar, Dr. Lokesh Kumar, Dr. Harshit, and Sh. Ravinder Kumar (Sports Instructor), whose encouragement added to the spirit of the occasion.
The primary objective of the programme was to sensitise students and youth towards the core values of Swadeshi, Atmanirbhar Bharat, physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, social responsibility, and national unity, drawing inspiration from the teachings and vision of Swami Vivekananda. NCC and NSS cadets, members of the Sports Committee, and students of the institute actively participated in the run, demonstrating energy, commitment, and collective resolve.
The “Run for Swadeshi” at PEC served as a meaningful platform to promote fitness with purpose, while reinforcing the institute’s commitment to nurturing socially responsible, value-driven, and nation-conscious youth.
