''We must see the Challenges of Emerging Technologies in Real Life '' : Dr. Shantanu Bhattacharya

Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh and Semiconductor Research Centre (SRC) today on 29th February, 2024 inaugurated a one-week Karyashala (High-end Workshop) on "Design and Fabrication of Modern Antennas for 5G/6G Wireless Communication" from 28th Feb - 5th March 2024. The chief guest of the inauguration ceremony Prof. (Dr.) Shantanu Bhattacharya, Director of CSIO Chandigarh, and Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, Director of PEC, as patron of this workshop, along with Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar Singh (Head SRIC & Deptt. of ECE) as chairman of the workshop graced the occasion with their auspicious presence. This workshop is Coordinated by Dr. Gourab Das (Faculty, ECE) and Co-Coordinated by Dr. Simranjit Singh (Faculty, ECE). And is supported by the Science and Engineering Research Board. This workshop is planned in continuation with the 5G Use Case lab and will provide hand-on Training on mm-wave Antenna, THz Antenna, CP Antenna etc. and measurement technique of Near Field Characteristics by using equipment like VNA, Spectrum Analyzer. Registrar, Col. R. M. Joshi along with all the members of faculty were also present at this occasion.

Dr. Gourab Das, (Faculty, ECE) welcomed the esteemed guests and participants for attending this workshop. He briefed about the Karyashala workshop, where speakers from IITs, NITs and Institute of National Importance and of Industry, will facilitate interactive sessions where participants can engage in hand-on activities related to design, simulation and fabrication of antennas, promoting practical skills development.

Prof. (Dr.) Arun Kumar Singh, (Head, SRIC and Deptt. of ECE) enlightened the audience about the working and research activities of the department of ECE. He informed about the Semiconductor Research Centre, 5G Use Case lab and advanced research happenings. He also said that this one week workshop will facilitate discussions led by prominent researchers, allowing participants to gain insights into the latest methodology applied in 5G/6G antenna design and fostering a deeper understanding of emerging technologies.

Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, congratulated the department and coordinators for organizing this workshop on 5G/6G Wireless Communication. He expressed his gratitude towards the chief guest for being here at the PEC Campus. He mentioned the 5G Use Case Lab being presented to PEC a few months back by the Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi. He also complimented the department for research and technical activities. Lastly, he complimented the department once again for having such a needed workshop on Design and Fabrication of Modern Antennas for 5G and 6G Wireless Communication.

Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Shantanu Bhattacharya, Director of CSIO Chandigarh, in his address gave scientific insights into the 5G and 6G Communication. He talked about Radio devices, sensors, antennas, and signal strengthening devices. He also shed light on data transmissions and features of 5G, computational technologies, role of AI, logical algorithm system, and all of these as essential parts of 6th Generation Wireless Communication in order to design and fabricate user-friendly devices with high speed and efficiency. He also shared the need for various domains on Frequency band and beam formats techniques, multiple input-output technologies, designing modern antenna systems to receive higher data rate, to control them digitally, use of meta and nano materials, 3D printing, ultimately to have smart antenna systems, their designing & fabrication, focusing on overall energy system. Lastly, he concluded that we have to talk about the challenges in real life of emerging technologies, contributing to the social fabric of this nation, and wished everyone for the successful completion of this workshop.

At last, the vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Simranjit Singh, coordinator of the workshop. A total number of 30 participants from institutes across India had participated and Speakers from IITs, ISRO and Industry will deliver their talks. A documentary presenting the glorious history and legacy of PEC was also shown to the gathering.
