Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh today welcomed the batch of 2024-2028 today on 16th August. 2024 by commencing its week-long orientation program. This Inaugural ceremony was graced by the esteemed Director Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia (Ad Interim), along with Registrar Col. R. M. Joshi, Dr. D. R. Prajapati (Dean Students Affairs), Prof. S.K. Mangal (Dean Academics Affairs), All the heads of the departments and centers. The event started out with the floral welcome of the esteemed Director of PEC Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia followed by lighting of the auspicious lamp.
Director of PEC, Prof. Rajesh Bhatia welcomed the new batch of students at the portals of PEC. He Congratulated the students on being selected in an Institute with 100+ years of legacy. He also shed light on 4Qs, comprising of Intelligence Quotient (IQ), Emotional Quotient (EQ), Social Quotient (SQ), and Adversity Quotient (AQ). He also asked them to focus on these 4 Qs to succeed in life. He had wished them a very happy learning and a growing career ahead.
Afterwards, Prof. S.K. Mangal, Dean of Academics Affairs, shed light on various courses, branches, different procedures, rules & regulation of their subjects-cum-classes. He also showed them minor details of marks, exams, evaluation and Credit System. Moving Further, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. D. R. Prajapati welcomed the new batch in his unique way. He introduced the students with various clubs, cells and technical societies. he also talked about the various sports facilities, along with Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Cricket and Football Ground. He also shed light on the technical and cultural event of PEC, i.e. PECFEST. He also talked about the functioning of NSS, NCC, Clubs and Societies. He also gave insights on various activities being carried out in the Institute.
ADSA, Dr. Puneet Chawla, shed light on the vision of PEC. She welcomed them all with open arms at the portal of PEC. She also shed light on the proficiency of various clubs along with their evaluation procedure. She also gave insights on the awards and Institute Colors to be given to students on the basis of their 4 year journey. Dr. Jyoti Kedia Professor-In-Charge, Technical Societies, shed light on the working of technical societies. The activities performed by these societies were also being introduced. Prof. Poonam Saini, introduced about the Career, Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC). She shed light the placements and various activities carried upon by this centre. She also talked about various events as of Pran, Lakshay, and Udaan conducted by CDGC.
Prof. Divya Bansal, Head Student Counselling Cell (SCC) provided a very inspiring and interesting introductory address of the Cell. She also inspired them to open up about their mental stresses and breakdowns. She informed about the availability of the Psychologist for students. Dr. Rajesh Kumar Kanda, (Head, Alumni, Corporate and International Relations) shed light on the various activities conducted by Alumni Department. He also connections of 20,000+ alumnus from all over the world. Lastly, Dr. Seema Vashish, Senior Librarian shed light on various collections, books and E-portals available.
Day one ended with Institute tour and departmental visits. In this week long orientation, various clubs would showcase themselves and introduce the new students to regime.
