Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, celebrated the vibrant festival of Lohri with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour on 13th January, 2026. Widely cherished across the northern region, Lohri marks the ripening of winter crops and heralds the onset of a new harvesting season, symbolising prosperity, gratitude, and renewal.
The celebrations were held at the institute’s football ground, where a large gathering of faculty and staff came together to partake in the festivities. Director, PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, ceremonially lit the sacred bonfire along with PEC staff members who are superannuating this year, lending a special and emotional significance to the occasion.
Following the lighting of the bonfire, faculty and staff members performed the traditional parikrama, offering sesame seeds, jaggery, gajak, and peanuts, in keeping with age-old customs. The atmosphere was further enlivened by soulful folk songs and energetic dances, reflecting the rich cultural heritage associated with the festival.
The gathering was marked by the exchange of warm wishes, sharing of traditional sweets, and moments of joyful interaction, reinforcing bonds of unity and camaraderie among the PEC fraternity. The Lohri celebrations at PEC not only highlighted the institute’s respect for cultural traditions but also underscored its commitment to fostering a spirit of togetherness, warmth, and collective joy within the campus community
