The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 2,00,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries and has headquarters in the USA. Founded in 1852, ASCE is one of the oldest engineering societies. ASCE-India Section is divided into four Regions (East, West, North, and South). In recent developments, ASCE HQ announced the results of the elections of office bearers for its Northern Region (comprises Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, UP, UK, Jammu, etc.) for the term 2023- 2025. The North Region has more than 2000 members of ASCE.
Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu was elected the ASCE IS North Region President for 2023-25. Further, his name was also announced as President-Elect for the whole ASCE India Section during 2025-27. He joined ASCE in 2014 and initiated the ASCE student chapter at Punjab Engineering College in 2014. Dr. Sandhu was the leading influencer in bringing the ASCE India Student Symposium into North India in 2022, which Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, hosted. Presently, he is working as faculty in the Civil Engineering Department at PEC Chandigarh. He has earned many awards (Commendation Award on Republic Day 2018, International Travel Award, Outstanding Faculty Advisor Award, etc.). He is working on many projects related to Advanced Surveying, Drone mapping, Sand mining, etc. Dr. Sandhu thanked the Institute’s Management for the support. He also remembers Er. GJS Rosha, who brought him into the fold of ASCE.
Dr. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, congratulated Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu on his accomplishment. He said that it is a proud moment for the institute that Dr. Sandhu has been elected as the President, India Section- Northern Region of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) for 2023-25. His achievement will inspire many students to explore the profession of civil engineering besides giving large visibility to the Institute.
Dr. Sanjeev Naval, heading the Department of Civil Engineering at DAV Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jalandhar, elected Secretary of ASCE IS NR. He is a well-known researcher and faculty in the region, working actively for the Smart City projects in Jalandhar and Amritsar.
Dr. Ankit Bansal (Assistant Engineer, PAU Ludhiana) was elected Treasurer of the same body. He is working in the field of traffic engineering and handling many research projects in the related field and completed his Ph.D. from PEC Chandigarh.
Ms. Mclarty Nives (Director, Global Programmes ASCE HQ) and other members have conveyed their best wishes and congratulated the new members upon resuming the new portfolios.
