The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, successfully concluded its six-day Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on "Hands-On Training, Research Aspects & Demonstration in 5G Use Case Lab," sponsored by AICTE Training and Learning (ATAL) Academy. Held from 16th to 21st November 2024, the workshop aimed to equip faculty members with advanced knowledge and practical expertise in 5G technology and its applications.
The Valedictory Ceremony was graced by the esteemed Director of PEC, Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Kumar Bhatia (Ad Interim), along with Prof. Arun Kumar Singh (Head of ECE and Co-Coordinator), Prof. Sanjeev Kumar (Head of the Physics Department and Coordinator of the Continuing Education Program), and Dr. Simranjit Singh (Coordinator).
The FDP featured expert lectures on cutting-edge topics, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT devices, 5G/B5G-enabled healthcare in rural areas, UAV applications, LiFi technology, and security challenges in next-generation networks. Participants gained valuable hands-on experience in PEC's advanced 5G Use Case Lab, exploring tools like Netsim and Optisystem software for simulating 5G architectures and designing core networks. An industrial visit to STPI Mohali provided additional exposure to real-world 5G applications.
Dr. Simranjit Singh introduced the FDP by highlighting its relevance in providing participants with hands-on training and advanced knowledge in 5G technology, with a focus on practical experiments conducted in PEC's state-of-the-art 5G Use Case Lab.
Prof. Arun Kumar Singh emphasized the growing importance of 5G applications in emerging fields and their alignment with the National Education Policy (NEP). He elaborated on the workshop's focus areas, which included AI and ML in 5G, LiFi technology, and advancements beyond 5G. Prof. Singh also highlighted PEC's Semiconductor Research Center as a hub for cutting-edge innovations. Participants gained practical insights using tools like Netsim and Optisystem software for simulating and designing 5G core networks.
Director Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, in his address, stressed the importance of faculty development initiatives in fostering innovation and preparing for upcoming technologies such as 6G.
