Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, has achieved another milestone by securing the First Position among 100 5G Use Case Labs across the country. The prestigious award was conferred by Dr. P. Chandra Shekhar, Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications, during the India Mobile Congress 2025 held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi.
The award was received by Prof. Arun Kumar Singh (Coordinator, 5G Use Case Lab at PEC), Dr. Simranjit Singh (Co-Coordinator), and Dr. Gourab Das.
The 5G Use Case Lab at PEC was among the 100 institutions across India selected and inaugurated by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in the year 2023. The lab has been actively developing innovative use cases in the domains of Agriculture, Industry, Education, and Research & Innovation, contributing to the national 5G ecosystem.
All participating labs were evaluated by the Department of Telecommunication, Govt. of India, on multiple parameters, including innovation, impact, scalability, and implementation. PEC’s 5G Use Case Lab emerged as the top performer, securing the first position at the national level.
The lab has so far trained over 500 participants, including faculty members, students, and research scholars, in diverse 5G applications and technologies.
Director of PEC, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia, also extended his heartfelt congratulations to the team and lauded this remarkable achievement. Expressing his delight, Prof. Arun Kumar Singh said, “It is a proud moment for PEC to be recognized at such a prestigious platform. This achievement reflects our commitment to advancing research and innovation in emerging technologies.”
