The Career Development and Guidance Centre (CDGC) at Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, hosted its annual OPEN HOUSE- 2023 on the 28th of April, 2023, for students of class IX & X from senior high schools from tri-city. The event aimed at providing an opportunity for the school students to get a firsthand experience through a guided tour to different departments and state of the art facilities at PEC. The PEC researchers, faculty and students interacted with the school students and showcased their projects. Over 300 students and academicians from ten different schools across the tri-city attended the event.
The event started with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries . After the floral welcome of Guests of Honour Sh. Amandeep Singh Bhatti, Director Technical Education and Sh. Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar, Director School Education, Dr. Poonam Saini, Prof. In-Charge, CDGC delivered the introductory remarks and cordially welcomed the visiting students and faculty members, and the dignitaries present in the inaugural ceremony. In her address she apprised the audience about the institution's initiative and the expected outcomes of the Open House 2023.
Prof. Baldev Setia, Director, PEC emphasized the purpose of the event, which was to instil a scientific temperament in school students and assist them in choosing the appropriate career path.
The event progressed with a video, showcasing the achievements and opportunities provided at Punjab Engineering College to the students.
Sh. Amandeep Singh Bhatti, Director Technical Education delivered a keynote address during the remarkable occasion. He mentioned that such events are great opportunities for students to learn about the discipline of engineering and technology which will inspire them to join the Institute. Sh. Harsuhinder Pal Singh Brar, Director School Education, enlightened the students with his enriched experiences and motivated them to make full use of this opportunity and interact with the students and faculty. Further, the students of PEB, DRAMATICS Club and Music Club gave their remarkable performances which were highly enjoyed by all.
The inaugural ceremony concluded with an interactive session by Shri Amit Hans, Director, Educorp Consultancy Services, Chandigarh who shared his insights and tips with the students for pursuing their higher education.
The event offered an exceptional opportunity for students to interact with the engineering students and get to know about projects, and laboratories including the state of the art facilities of PEC. The students shared positive feedback as they felt highly motivated and inspired after interacting with the students who showcased their projects. A memorable day came to an end, and the visiting students and teachers returned home with great joy.
In conclusion, the event proved to be a highly enlightening experience for the attendees, providing them with a platform to witness the practical implementation of Science and Technology, cultivate a scientific bent of mind at an early stage, and facilitate the pursuit of scientific endeavours.
