The Physics Department at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) organized a dynamic workshop centered on "Quantum Materials: Shaping the Future of Technology." On 22nd April, 2024. The event brought together a diverse range of experts, scholars, and enthusiasts eager to explore the intricacies of quantum technology and its wide-ranging applications.
The inaugural session was graced by esteemed guests, including Chief Guest Prof. Arvind, Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University Patiala, and Prof. Baldev Setia, Director of PEC, as the patron of the workshop. Also in attendance were Prof. Sushanta DattaGupta, Honorary Scientist at INSA, and Prof. Arun Grover, Honorary Professor, among other distinguished guests.
The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the brochure for PEC's latest 2-year M.Tech program on "Quantum Materials and Technology." This program is a collaborative effort between the Physics Department and the Electronics & Communications Engineering Department at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, in partnership with INST Mohali, IIT Roorkee, IACS Kolkata, IISc Bangalore, IISER Mohali, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Ropar, and NPL Delhi.
The workshop featured a captivating Public Lecture on ‘From Quantum Physics to Quantum Technologies: A Journey of a Century’ by Prof. Arvind, followed by an engaging interactive session with participants. He discussed the importance of the Government of India’s National Quantum Mission and stressed upon knowledge of quantum physics being the need of the hour. He said that, ''Engineering is going to become Quantum and PEC had taken an important step towards this technology.''
Renowned experts in the field of quantum materials, including Prof. Sushanta DattaGupta, Honorary Scientist at INSA , Prof. Aveek Bid from IISc Bangalore, Prof. Amit Aggarwal from IIT Kanpur, Prof. Yogesh Singh from IISER Mohali, and Prof. Arindam Ghosh from IISc Bangalore, discussed the recent trends in quantum technologies.
Drawing a substantial audience, the workshop saw enthusiastic participation from students of IIT Ropar, IISER Mohali, INST Mohali, Panjab University, Kurukshetra University, Chandigarh University, alongside research scholars and faculty from PEC.
