The National Technology Day celebrations took place with great fervour and enthusiasm at Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh on 10th May, 2022.
The event took place in the Senate Hall of the Institution and was graced by eminent personalities including Padmashree Dr. Satish Kumar, Chairman, Armament Research Board, DRDO, who was the Chief Guest of the celebrations and Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar, who acted as the guest of honour for the day.
After an initial introduction about the significance of the National Technology Day, a bouquet presentation to the eminent guests by the Director of the institute, Prof. Baldev Setia, and lamp lighting was held.
The gathering was addressed by Prof. Setia. Prof. Setia talked about the importance of technology and innovation and seeked the blessings of the chief guest for new technological initiatives that are going to be launched at PEC. Following this, a video showcasing the importance of the National Technology Day, made by the students of PEC was played.
The gathering was then addressed by the guest of honour, Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director, IIT Ropar. Prof. Ahuja highlighted the significance of innovation in research and development and urged the gathering to keep a high vision when it comes to technology. He recollected his experiences in research and teaching in both India as well as Sweden and elaborated on the need for collaboration of premier institutes such as PEC and IIT Ropar for the growth of technology.
This was followed by a detailed presentation by the chief guest, Padmashree Dr. Satish Kumar, Chairman, Armament Research Board, DRDO on the theme of the National Technology Day - "Integrated Approach in Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future". Dr. Satish Kumar charmed the audience with an extensive account of how India as a nation preserved through centuries to give us eminent academics and scientists such as Dr. C V Raman, Prof. Vikram Sarabhai and Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam, and later on, talked about his experiences with the first nuclear program of India. He elaborated on the need and importance of good research institutions, and the vision that Indian citizens should abide by. Being an alum of the institute, Dr. Satish reminisced about his time spent at PEC.
After his presentation, the Director of PEC, Prof. Baldev Setia felicitated the guests with a Shawl and the ceremonial centenary coffee table book of PEC. Overall, the event was an honourable and successful experience.
