Dramatics Club-PEC University of Technology and NSS-PEC in association with 'Elante Carnival' and in collaboration with Urban Theka, as creative partner and Brooklyn Central, as food partner organized IBTIDA, Chandigarh's first street play festival in the courtyard of Elante Mall.
The two day spectacular event was graced by Dr. Perminderjit Singh, Dean Student Affairs, PEC University of Technology.
Teams from colleges across the country took part and put forward an enthusiastic display of the power of theatre. The courtyard of Elante was filled with cheers and applause when the first team, from UIET, Hoshiarpur performed on the theme: 'suicide '. Performances by students of Amity University and PGDAV Evening College continued to keep the audiences hooked onto performances by young artists. While PGDAV focused on 'peer pressure', students from Amity emphasised on 'martyrdom'. Not missing out on regional flavour, teams from Tricity that performed alongside, included PGGC 11 and Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET) on the importance of 'sex education' and concern of 'water scarcity' respectively.
On the second day, the vibrant and boisterous environment was graced by the presence of Dr. Manoj K. Arora, Director, PEC University of Technology and attended by faculty members as well. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Annu Bains- an interior architect, owner of Brooklyn Central and Producer of the Punjabi film 'Qissa Punjab'.
To stay true to the spirit of street plays, the event began with a common call to attract the audience. Various social issues like Pseudo-nationalism, Encouragement of Sports, Awareness on Road accidents, Burden on farmers, Corruption and many more were highlighted in various touching performances by the students of various colleges across India.
Performances of the concluding day included teams from JMIT (Radaur), Punjab College of Technical Education, Dyal Singh Evening College, DAV College, Chitkara University (Baddi) and a guest performance by the students of PEC University of Technology.
All present agreed that it was a great initiative by the students of NSS and the Dramatics Club of PEC to raise awareness about poignant issues which affect us all, in a creative and entertaining manner.
