Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh today celebrated World Environment Day with the Inauguration of the Institute Park. Chief Guest Smt. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, MC Chandigarh, inaugurated the Garden of Shadows in the presence of Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, Col RM Joshi, Registrar PEC, esteemed faculty members and staff members. Smt. Anindita Mitra, Prof. Baldev Setia and other faculty members planted saplings in the newly inaugurated park and encouraged future technical collaboration with the Institution to sustain the city's green spaces.
In continuation of the celebrations, the Civil Engineering Department of PEC also organised an informative session on environment day, a prize distribution ceremony for the Environment Day Quiz winners and presentations by M Tech Students and Research scholars.
In his welcome address, Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, extended a warm welcome to the chief guest and esteemed faculty members present. He complimented the organisers on their efforts to make this environment day memorable. Starting with the history of World Environment Day and its relevance today, he focused on the significance of the balance of five basic elements of nature. He motivated the present members to change small habits today to create a better tomorrow.
Chief Guest, Smt. Anindita Mitra, while addressing the audience, stated that by following the concept of reducing, reusing and recycling, we all can contribute to the conservation of nature. She stated that with simple habits of carrying jute bags to market for groceries and carrying reusable bottles, we can make a lot of difference.
Guest of Honour, Prof. B.R. Gurjan, Director of NITTTR Chandigarh, motivated the audience to live a modest lifestyle and not follow consumerism. He also encouraged the current members to conduct research that will aid in the resolution of environmental and societal issues. He also focused on the significance of the digital economy, AI, and digital universities in the future.
Prof. Umesh Sharma, Head of Civil Engineering Dept. gave a vote of thanks to all the members present.
