The Civil Engineering Department, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, organized industry-academia expert lecture week from 11-15 September 2023. Sh. R.K. Dhiman, VSM, ADG, Border Road Organization, New Delhi delivered a lecture on "Bridge Construction Challenges in Hilly Areas" on 14.09.2023. The expert lecture was organized to promote industry-academia interaction and inform the students about challenges faced by civil engineers in the construction of bridges in hilly area.
The event started with a floral welcome of the Chief Guest by Prof. Umesh Sharma, Head, Civil Engineering Department. During the lecture, Sh. R.K. Dhiman apprised the students about the challenges faced by Civil Engineers during bridge construction in hilly areas especially in well foundation construction and pneumatic sinking. He shared insights into the different technologies used in the bridge construction and major bridges constructed in India. He also discussed the concept of grey area in bridge foundation construction which was appreciated by both students and faculty members. The expert lecture was attended by B. Tech 3rd year students, M. Tech. 1st year students, faculty members, and research scholars in the lecture hall, L-2. The session was followed by a question-answer session.
Prof. Arshdeep Singh (Coordinator) expressed the gratitude to Sh. R.K. Dhiman for sharing his valuable knowledge with the participants. In the end of the lecture, Sh. R.K. Dhiman was felicitated by Prof. Umesh Sharma, Head, Civil Engineering Department, PEC.
