The Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE), Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, organised an expert lecture on “Metasurfaces: Building Blocks of Tomorrow’s Optical Technologies” by Dr. Mohsen Rahmani, Distinguished Professor at Nottingham Trent University, UK. The lecture was coordinated by Dr Jyoti Kedia Associate professor under the patronage of Professor Neena Gupta Head, ECE department.
Dr. Rahmani, an internationally recognised researcher in nanophotonics, metasurfaces, nanomaterials, and advanced optical technologies, shared insights into emerging developments shaping the future of optics. He holds a PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National University of Singapore and has held academic and research positions at leading institutions including Imperial College London and the Australian National University.
During the lecture, Dr. Rahmani introduced the concept of metasurfaces and explained how engineered nanoscale structures can manipulate light to enable compact and advanced optical systems. He particularly discussed metalenses, highlighting their potential to transform conventional optical technologies in different application areas such as linear and nonlinear photonics and biopotonics.
The lecture was attended by the UG/ PG and PhD students of the department along with the faculty members.
