Semiconductor Research Centre, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be a University), Chandigarh in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, today inaugurated the week-long training session on the DST-FIST- Supported “Hands-on Training Program on Semiconductor Device Fabrication and Characterisation”. The training program is funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), under STUTI (Synergistic Training Program Utilising the Scientific and Technological Infrastructure) program, Government of India in Association with IEEE Chandigarh Subsection. Prof. Amitava Patra, Director, Institute of Nano Science & Technology was the Chief Guest for the Inaugural ceremony. Apart from the theoretical knowledge, the training session aims to provide practical hands-on experience to the participants through a laboratory session where the characterization of samples and operation of instruments will be demonstrated to create awareness among the participants.
The event commenced with Prof. Amitava Patra, Director INST, Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC, Prof. Neena Gupta head of the department ECE, Associate Prof. Arun Kumar, Coordinator of the training session, lighting the ceremonial lamp. Prof. Neena Gupta head of the department ECE, briefed the present members about the department and the SCL lab, its facilities and gave a warm welcome to all the participants.
Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC during his welcome note stated, that the Semiconductor Research Centre, ECE Department inaugurated by the President of India during the Centenary celebrations is enriched by the inclusion of advanced research and design-oriented equipment. He extended a warm welcome to all the guests and participants and complemented them for choosing PEC and its state of the art Semiconductor Research Centre for the session. He motivated them to make full use of the SCL lab in the week-long Program and encouraged them to share their knowledge and experiences. He also congratulated the organisers for conducting such informative and practical training sessions.
Prof. Amitava Patra, Director Institute of Nano Science & Technology, in his keynote lecture apprised the present faculty and participants about the background and challenges of Light Harvesting Research, 2D Semiconductor Nanoplatelets, Lead Halide Perovskile NCs, Conjugated Organic Nanomaterials and Metal Nano-cluster. During the technical session he also focused on the importance of creativity, originality, imagination and intuition. Focusing on the need to choose right research project that can be identified with their names, he encouraged the participants to be persistent in the field of research and also advised them to collaborate with other researchers often. He shared the 5D’s Dream, Direction, Desire, Discipline and Determination with his fellow participants and extended warm welcome and best wishes for the week-long learning.
Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Coordinator of the training session stated that all the sessions are designed to blend the theoretical knowledge with practical experience at the newly established Semiconductor Research Centre. More than 70 applications from the participants of various institutions across the country were received out of which 38 applications were accepted. During the sessions, MTech and PhD students of NIT, IIT and INST IISER Mohali will be trained at Semiconductor Lab of ECE department, PEC.
