The Aerospace Engineering Department, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh, in association with the Institution of Engineers (India), Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre (Under the Aegis of Aerospace Engineering Division Board) and Aeronautical Society of India, Chandigarh, today inaugurated the 35th National Convention of Aerospace Engineering and National Seminar on “SMART MATERIALS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS IN AEROSPACE STRUCTURE” at The Institution of Engineers (India), Sector 19 A, Chandigarh. Padma Shree Dr. Satish Kumar, was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural Ceremony. Dr. P V Venkitakrishnan, Er. Swinder Singh, Honorary Secretary, Air Marshal R.K.S Shera, Prof. T.S. Kamal, Dr. Labh Singh and Prof. T. K Jindal, PEC also graced the occasion with their presence.

The event started with Dr. Labh Singh, the Chairman, Punjab & Chandigarh State Centre extending a warm welcome to the esteemed guests and lighting the lamp. He motivated the participants to have a fruitful seminar.

Dr. T K Jidal, Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) apprised the participants about the topic “Smart Materials and their Applications in Aerospace Structures” and extended a warm welcome to all the participants and wished them to have enlightening sessions by the most resourceful persons in the fields.

Padma Shri Dr. Satish Kumar, in his address thanked and congratulated the organizers of organizing such informative sessions and providing a platform to people for sharing their research knowledge and experiences in the field. Focusing on the importance of material, he mentioned that major scientific inventions depend on materials which makes material the kind and makes inventions possible. He also focused on the importance of research and development in the field and the importance of collaboration. Talking about the smart materials, he mentioned that smart materials are the backbone of application of Aerospace in current times. He appreciated the organizers and congratulated the participants for selecting such platforms for sharing their knowledge.

Dr. P V Venkitakrishnan in his address stated that such seminars provide platforms for interactive learning and also provide opportunities for collaboration. He motivated the participants to learn from such seminars and asked them to encourage others to also attend such informative seminars.

The two-day seminar includes multiple technical sessions and keynote address which includes Kalpana Chawla Memorial Lecture by Shri Yogesh Kumar, Former Director LCA Programme, Dr. Satish Dawan Memorial Lecture by Prof. T S Kamal, Keynote address by Sh. Jitendra Singh, NAL, Flight Test Engineer.
