PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh kick started its new academic session with its Orientation Programme, an annual event conducted for newly admitted students. This programme is organized to provide a smooth transition for the students into the new environment of the institute. The entire college staff and students worked day and night to put together the event to give the freshers a small insight into the functioning of PEC University of Technology.
The first day of the orientation was marked by the launch of the PEC Anthem "We are PEC". There was also the official launch of the new PEC website and PECEasy, a mobile app designed for the ease of students. An alumni connect Website was also launched to facilitate two-way communication between the college and its alumni. The chief guest for the occasion, Sh. Indresh Kumar, PEC alumnus and leader, Muslim Rashtriya Manch also held an interactive session with the students.
The main highlight of the second day was the presence of Mr. Varun Kalia, PEC alumnus and Ex-CEO, Cantonment Board. He interacted with the freshers, talking to them about the problems he faced in his life and gave students encouragement as to how they can go ahead and overcome all the obstacles they will face in life if they show character, self-belief and a strong will. The other activities included a presentation by students who have come back from their internship, telling the freshers about the dream internships they can get.
On the third day of Orientation Programme student witnessed a lecture by 1984-batch IAS officer and ex-secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Dr. Nirmal Jeet Singh Kalsi on "Facing the new Global Technologies and Business Challenges". This was followed by the presentations of NSS, NCC and Physical Education as part of the curriculum.
The fourth and final day of the Orientation Programme-2015 for newly admitted students at PEC began with beautiful and engaging presentations by various cultural clubs like the Art and Photography Club (APC), Communication Club, Projection and Design Club (PDC), Speakers' Association and Study Circle (SAASC), and Dramatics Club. The clubs engaged the new students with videos, presentations and more. The students were encouraged to take up at least one cultural club as a part of their curriculum to help their overall personality development.
This was followed by presentations by various editorial boards of the institute, including the Hindi, English and Punjabi editorial boards. The editorial boards called upon the writers in the new batch to join them. Next up were presentations by various technical societies of the college including the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) and Aero Modelling Society (AMS). The students from Robotics Society showed their technical prowess when they introduced a talking bot on the stage to encourage students to join their society. The highlight was the setting up of a new technical society, the Astrophysics Society. The new society is bound to bring laurels to the college as it has already received an endorsement from Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). The new students will be graded according to their performance in any technical society of their choice. This was then followed by a colorful bhangra performance by Punjabi editorial club which enthralled the audience. After that some of the freshers showcased their talent and entertained the audience by their soulful singing and dancing performances.
The event concluded with the prize distribution ceremony by the Deputy Director Dr. Sanjeev Sofat to all the winners of the sports and literary events organized during the four days of the orientation. The top three rankers of PEC University of Technology for the new batch were also facilitated by the Deputy Director. The orientation program was a huge success and provided the new students with the flavor of PEC. Dr. Vasundhara Singh and Dr. Divya Bansal thanked all the organizing committee members of nearly 150 students for the untiring efforts put in by them for making it such a successful event
The orientation program ended leaving the freshers full of hope and excitement to kick-start a new phase of their life. Talking to Kamini Singla, one among many freshers who witnessed this event, "I was not sure whether PEC University of Technology was the best choice for me to do my engineering, but after this orientation programme organized by the college staff and students, I truly believe PEC University to be the best option for me." Ketan Sud, another fresher remarked," I was really nervous before coming to college as to how I would blend in and whether or not I would like this new environment or not. But after these past four days and the entire orientation program, I have fallen in love with PEC University of Technology. The entire college staff and students have put together an amazing show and I cannot wait for my college life to start so that I can be a part of this amazing institution."
