Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh celebrated Teacher's Day on 5th September 2023 with a fervent event to honour the dedicated faculty and staff at the PEC Auditorium.
Before the Teacher’s Day celebrations, there was an interaction session between PEC Faculty and Scientists from Solid State Physics Laboratory (SSPL), Delhi.
The interactive session commenced with a warm welcome extended by Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia, Director, PEC to the visiting scientists. It was followed by Prof. Setia extending his wishes for Teacher's Day to the faculties.
The interactive session featured a presentation by Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, HSRIC who provided insights into the various state-of-the-art equipment housed in PEC's laboratories. The presentation highlighted the advanced facilities available to support academic and research pursuits.
Prof. Vasundhara Singh, Dean Faculty Affairs further enriched the session by describing the research facilities at PEC, emphasizing the institution's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for cutting-edge research.
The Teacher's Day celebrations commenced with a warm welcome extended to the Chief Guest, Dr. Seema Vinayak, Director, SSPL, Delhi, and the PEC faculty. This welcoming gesture was followed by a symbolic lamp lighting ceremony. Then, Prof. Setia extended a floral welcome to the esteemed Chief Guest, which was followed by an inspiring welcome address delivered by Prof. Vasundhara Singh, DFA.
Faculty and students presented a captivating performance of Ganesh Vandana. Then, Dr. Balwinder Kaur and Dr. Ajay Kumar gave their research presentations. This was followed by an enchanting performance by Dr. Akshi, and Prof. Uma Batra sharing her insights on "Life as a Teacher at PEC."
Prof. Shakti Kumar's artistic performance added a creative touch and was followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PEC and SSPL, Delhi.
Then, Prof. (Dr.) Baldev Setia addressed the gathering, emphasizing the increasing role of teachers in today's world. He emphasized that teachers are remembered and recognized by their students. To illustrate this point, he shared notable examples such as Swami Vivekananda, who was a disciple of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who was a disciple of Samarth Ramdas, and Sachin Tendulkar, who was a student of Ramakant Achrekar. These examples served as powerful reminders of the profound influence that teachers can have on the lives of their students.
Director Setia concluded his address with a couplet by Kabir:
"सब धरती काजग करू, लेखनी सब वनराए ।
सात समुद्र की मसि करूँ, गुरु गुण लिखा न जाए । "
Emphasizing the immeasurable value of teachers and their virtuous qualities that cannot be adequately expressed through words alone.
Chief Guest, Dr. Seema Vinayak, Director of SSPL, Delhi, delivered an enlightening address, emphasizing the pivotal role of education and research. In her insightful speech, she fondly remembered her professors at Panjab University, highlighting the enduring influence of teachers on their students' lives.
Recognition took center stage with award ceremonies for both faculty and non-teaching staff, and the Chief Guest was felicitated. Students showcased their talents with captivating performances, adding vibrancy to the celebration.
The event ended with a vote of thanks by Prof. Siby John, Deputy Director, PEC, and a group photograph with all awardees on stage and serving of tea and snacks.
