Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh held it’s 96th Senate meeting on 11th February 2022 to discuss improvements and changes in policy to be made for the academic year 2021-2022. The Senate meeting was presided over by the Director Dr. Baldev Setia and was attended by Deans, Heads of Departments and other Institute Functionaries. Keeping in line with the Director's vision in improving the research culture at the institute, the suggested policy changes were thoroughly discussed.
The main discussion on the agenda was to formalise the institute's Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) policy and lay down a transparent administrative system for the ownership control and assignment of intellectual properties as well as sharing of the revenues generated by such Intellectual properties. The discussion included the steps to be taken to promote the research and technological investigations in the area of sciences, engineering and humanities as well as to safeguard the legitimate interests of faculty, students and staff of the Institute. The purpose of this policy is to define the rights and responsibilities of PEC and its faculty, students and staff w.r.t ownership and administration of intellectual property
In order to encourage research collaborations between the Institute and Industry, A committee was formed for simplifying the administrative processes for sponsored research projects and consultancy projects. Besides this, incentives for faculty members to encourage research publications were also approved. Another proposal was discussed for awards worth Rs. 20000/- to be given to the topper students of Computer Science Engineering Dept. and ECE department, courtesy of Ex-Professor Y.C. Chopra.
Today's discussions also included exploring the feasibility of starting a new M.tech program in Data Sciences offered by the Centre of Excellence in Data Sciences. Moreover, elective courses on Software-Defined Networking and its Applications (SDN) were suggested to be offered by the department of Computer Science.
New advanced Courses to be offered by the Applied Sciences Department were proposed to be added to the curricula of PhD and PG programs as electives. Keeping up with the industry’s demand, the M.Tech Electronics program was renamed as M.Tech Communication Engineering and Signal Processing with a refurbished course structure including many new core and elective courses.
Regarding the MoU with UT Police department, provisions and feasibility to include a certificate course for police and other defence personnel was taken up during the meeting.
