Freiden Electric, a start-up at PEC University of Technology, has won Rs. 10 Lacs as prize money in an international competition held by the Govt. of Chile. "Start up Chile" is a seed accelerator created by the Government of Chile to attract early stage, high potential entrepreneurs to use Chile as a platform to go global. It is a highly selective program which selects startups from over thousand of applicants.
Frieden Electric, established by PEC students, develops innovative solutions with cutting edge technology. "We have developed machines which grow completely organic, highly nutritious fruits and vegetables, indoors. In addition, our systems consume 80% less water as compared to traditional farming and absolutely zero insecticides or pesticides," says Jasmeet Randhawa, Co-founder of Frieden Electric.
"Last year we won the first prize at IGNITE, a startup competition organized by PEC's Entrepreneurship and Incubation Cell. It is only because of the guidance, funding, mentoring and the start-up work culture here that we were able to go from one failure to another, without loss of enthusiasm, until finally hitting upon what we wanted to achieve," Co-founder Satinder Sandhu cheerfully remarks. "We believe we can use this technology to benefit the Indian Farmers, most of who are in deep debt due to the inefficient farming practices currently prevailing."
As a Startup Chile participant they will be a part of a groundbreaking entrepreneurial experience and will meet other like-minded entrepreneurs from all over the world. Participants will receive a grant of $15,000 and a 1-year Chilean resident visa for the team members as well as access to a co-working space in Santiago. Given the collaborative workspace and regular activities held by the program, they will have many opportunities to socialize with their peers and grow their industry network.
While in Chile, Frieden Electric aims to develop a viable technological solution to enable the growing and promotion of healthier food and crop practices, resulting in better profits for farmers, and healthy chemical free food for the end consumer.
