Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UT Police (Chandigarh) on 8th December 2021 to set up an institutional mechanism for interaction between the two organizations. The MoU was signed by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director, PEC, and Mr. Praveer Ranjan, IPS, Director General of Police, Chandigarh along with Dr. Divya Bansal, Dean Alumni and Corporate Relations and also Head, Cyber Security Research Centre and Mr. Ketan Bansal, IPS, SP.
The purpose of this MoU is to identify emerging and futuristic technologies in the field of Cyber Crime and their likely impact on various dimensions of investigation of Cyber Crimes. This MoU will work as an umbrella agreement under which various projects related to cyber security and operations will be undertaken by Cyber Security Research Centre, PEC, Chandigarh. This MoU is an example where UT Police will support through the scholarships of the research students who will work towards solving their technological problems being at the Cyber Security Research Centre.
Speaking about the collaboration, Prof. Baldev Setia, Director, PEC, said, “This is one of the most unique MoU that has been signed between the two organizations as it brings together two different yet completely complementary organizations who can contribute potentially by working closely with each other. The initial phase of interaction will be important to be able to understand the real-time problems and challenges being faced and a good foundation is laid for sustained collaboration.”
Dr. Divya Bansal, Head, CSRC said, “Under the MoU, CSRC, PEC will discuss and crystallize the short term (less than one year), medium-term (one to three years) and long term (three to five years) Projects and conduct research studies in latest challenging areas. Avenues of Publishing Joint Compendiums, Research Publications, etc. emerging as the outcome of the studies will also be explored.“
Through this MoU, PEC and UT Police will connect the faculty, researchers, and students with the police officials. This partnership aims to undertake mutually beneficial research & analysis programs and to conduct training and capacity-building programs. Another aspect of this MoU will enable UT Police to recognize and facilitate PEC in publishing research papers and conducting specific projects and joint research studies. The MoU will provide the students with unparalleled exposure. Regular conferences, round table workshops, and discussions on the technological process will also be a part of this MoU.
The major goal of this MoU is to enhance capabilities in the Innovation Led Cyber Crime Management and indigenize the production and availability of cutting-edge cyber tools/software and products, vital for national cyber security and interests, and for successful detection and investigation of the crimes involving the use of Cyber Space, in a viable timeframe and make the country a leading cyber power of the world.
