It is often though that Robotics and Engineering is meant for college students only. This notion was challenged by school students who came together to compete at 'Techno - Genius', an Inter - School Robotics Championship that took place at PEC University of Technology. Young kids from school all across the tri - city spent the entire day at the campus. They were given a four - hour training session in Robotics training which was followed by an intense competition. The students were asked to create a Line - Following robot and were then judged based on time taken, accuracy and the perfection achieved in creating the Robot. Through Techno - Genius, the organizers aim at bringing the world of Robotics to each and every student of the region, so that they can grow academically as well as creatively.
The competition was organized by IEEE PEC in association with Chandigarh - based RoboChamps India. IEEE is the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE and its members inspire a global community to innovate for a better tomorrow through highly cited publications, conferences, technology standards, and professional and educational activities. The second organizer, RoboChamps India has been working relentlessly for the past few years to bring Robotics Education to the students of the country. They aim at providing 'Hands On Practice', a new and effective methodology to students to teach them STEM topics: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Till date, they have reached more than 20,000 students across 500 schools. 'Techno - Genius' is a part of their plans to further promote Robotics Education in the region.
The event was attended not only by students, but also by various teachers, school authorities and renowned organizations.
