Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh held its 102nd Senate Meeting on 17th March 2023 to discuss important agendas related to the Institution. The meeting was presided over by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director PEC and was attended by the newly composed Senate committee.
New Members to attend the senate:
Shri. Manmohan Singh, Member, Punjab Infrastructure Regulatory Authority (PIRA) Chandigarh joined the senate as an external member. Prof. Arun Kumar Singh, Electronics & Communication Engg. Dept., Prof. Suman Kant, Production & Industrial Engg. Dept., Dr. Ajay Kumar, Electrical Engineering, Seema Vasishta, Senior Librarian PEC, Sushil Kumar, Network Administrator PEC, were among the newest members present at the meeting from the institute.
Major Agendas discussed at the meeting:
To consider the restructuring of UG seats
Considering the pace of change in nature and job profiles in engineering, PEC from time to time has also proposed to change their courses and curriculum of studies to remain relevant to the dynamic needs of the market. In the 102nd meeting the members of the senate after much deliberation proposed:
a) The strength of students in the B.Tech Programme intake to be fixed w.e.f. the year 2023-24 at
1. 90 seats for Civil Engineering
2. 30 seats for Metallurgical & Material Engineering
3. 30 seats for Production and Industrial Engineering
b) Three new B.Tech Programmes to be started w.e.f. the year 2023-24:
1. B.Tech in Electronics Engineering (VLSI Design and Technology) (30 seats)
2. B. Design (30 seats)
3. B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) (30 seats)
In another important agenda, the restructuring of Post Graduate seats was also discussed. The number of seats in some of the M.Tech programmes has been reduced as per the demand of current times. The senate has proposed to close the M.Tech in Electronics Engineering, Water Resources Engineering and M.Tech in Production & Industrial Engineering. The Senate also proposed to start a new M.Tech Program in Computer-Aided Design (CAD)/Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM) in the department of Production and Industrial Engineering with 12 seats from 2023-24 onwards.
The proposal to confer an award in the form of a scholarship in memory of Lt. Mr. Kaushik Mahajan (Batch 1992-96) for the ‘Best Hardware Project’ of B.Tech. final year students group was also approved in the Senate.
Considering Industrial Tour/ visit of B.Tech, M.Tech students, result of B.Tech 1st year students, rank certificates of B.Tech and M.Tech. programmes were among some of the routine agendas discussed at the meeting.
