The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 2,00,000 members of the civil engineering profession in 177 countries and has headquartered in Virginia, USA. Founded in 1852, ASCE is one of the oldest engineering societies. The primary mandate of ASCE is to motivate and assist civil engineers in working for sustainable development.
In recent developments, ASCE HQ announced Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh as hosts for the ASCE India Student Symposium 2022 (25-27 March 2022). Further, UPES Dehradoon and DIT Institute Pimpri, Pune will be co-hosts of the symposium. During the symposium, several events like Concrete Canoe Competition, Steel Bridge Competition, Seminars on sustainable solutions etc., are in the pipeline. The winners of many events may represent India in ASCE HQ events in the USA.
An official event to release the official website and brochure for the symposium was held simultaneously in all three institutes. Dr. Baldev Setia (Director), Dr. Siby John (Deputy Director), Dr. Umesh Sharma (Head of CED), Dr. Sanjeev (Dean Students) graced the occasion. Director PEC shared the 100 years legacy of the institute and encouraged students to do their best in every step in life. He motivated the students to participate in technical events. Dr. Umesh Sharma, heading the civil engineering department, informed the audience about the department's infrastructure and assured full support to the students for this event.
One may gauge the importance of the event as ASCE HQ officials joined the occasion (online). Mr. Thomas (Executive Director) and Mr. K.N. Gunalan (ASCE President, 2020) congratulated the hosts and suggested several things to succeed in this symposium. They released the symposium's official website with detailed information about the event. Later, the brochure was released simultaneously in all three institutes.
Further, Dr. Pramod Patil (Principal), Dr. Deepa Joshi (Co-Chair), and other DIT Pimpri Pune officials attended the event. Dr. Sunil Rai (VC-UPES), Prof. Anand Singh (Co-Chair) also graced the occasion.
In the concluding session, Dr. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu (Chair, Symposium) thanked all the dignitaries from PEC, DIT, UPES, and ASCE USA. Further, he also congratulated student convenors (Sarthak, Harshita, Yamini, Uttkarsh and Shubham) for the successful conduct of this event.
