Three days PEC-Industry Conclave 2016 concluded at PEC University of Technology on 25th September 2016. The day witnessed its last technical session, on 'Role of Industries in skill development, soft skills and learning resources'. It was attended by a large gathering comprising students, members of the faculty and delegates from academia and industry.
Mr. Sofi Zahoor, Director HR, Quark India, Mohali, began the day by mentioning the expectations one has from an Industry- Academia amalgamation. He expressed his views upon the prominence of effective communication in our lives and narrated interesting anecdotes from his personal and professional life to emphasize the importance of attitude and discipline in one's life.
The next lecture was taken up by Mr. Sharad Sharma, Product Management Professional, where he discussed how the young talent should be primed for their career that lays ahead. He emphasised on the need for quality education and importance of soft skills in order to be successful in their career. After having explained the scenario, he promptly gave suggestions from industrial and academia point of view. The academia was advised to lay stress on applied knowledge rather than sole theory while also encouraging the development of soft and interpersonal skills in students' personality. The role of the industry, in his opinion, is to provide necessary guidance to the students during the course of their projects.
Further, Dr. Divya Bansal, Co-ordinator Cyber Security, PEC, took the stage in order to explain the institute's perspective on creating industry ready workforce and adaptability by a student towards changing work environment. She also elaborated the skills that the institute intends to inculcate in their students through the various edge cutting technologies. Another lecture on a balanced approach for talent development was delivered Mr. Vikas Ahuja, Head, Development Centre, Infosys Ltd Chd.
The session was summarised by the reportiers who presented the gist of the various technical sessions of the conclave. The reportiers' included Dr. Sumir Bharadwaj, Dr. Mamta Sharma, Dr. Poonam Saini and Dr. Rupali Syal.
In a nutshell, the final day of the conclave left the audience hopeful and inclined towards a successful connect between PEC and the industry. The institute gained an insight on how they could better prepare their students to keep up with the rapidly changing industrial demands while the industry learnt the hurdles faced by the academia.
The event was ended with concluding remarks by the Director, Prof. Manoj K Arora who applauded the efforts put in by all committee members to make the event a grand success.
