National e-Governance Division (NeGD) in association with National Service Scheme (NSS), Department of Youth Affairs conducts awareness workshops on 'Digital India' in 100+ universities all over the country. In association with the same, the NSS unit of PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh organized a Digital India Workshop on October 04, 2016.
The workshop commenced with the Inauguration Ceremony and lighting of the lamp. The event was graced by the Chief Guest - Director, Dr. Manoj K. Arora. The other dignitaries present included Mr. Anil Prashar, Center Head SPIC, Ms. Kamal, Dr. Manjul Vaidya and Prof. M.L. Gupta.
This was followed by words of wisdom by the Dr. Manoj K. Arora and Dr. Manjul Vaidya. Dr. Arora emphasized the importance of Digital literacy and he urged the teachers to switch to a digital platform for teaching. He also expressed his wish to change the existing system of education to Flip Classrooms.
Dr.Vaidya discussed the significance of the National Digital Literacy Mission; connecting the masses directly with the government. Also, the National Digital Literacy Mission aims to provide a helping hand to the farmers in the rural areas by providing them the knowledge of seeds and fertilizers in the agricultural sector.
Various interactive sessions were held throughout the day highlighting the significance of digitalization. An Audio Visual Quiz was conducted, which was aimed at testing the memory retention of the students. Also, a Poster making competition was organized, where students in teams of two made some splendid posters on the theme 'Digital India'.
The workshop also witnessed a display of Skit performances by the students addressing the importance of digitalization in the country which touched the various essential topics including digital locker, e-hospitals, e-waste management to name a few. Also, a number of varied Government programs under the 'Digital India' scheme were emphasized upon to make the students more aware.
Followed this, a Strategy Making Competition was held wherein teams were asked to present a solution for the problem presented to them. The aim of the session was to inculcate in the students the importance of critical thinking and idea generation. The students came up with a variety of innovative and unorthodox solutions.
The workshop ended on a high with the winners being felicitated and the workshop recorded a participation of over 200 students.
