Just a few days back, Indians were glued to TV sets, hoping for the elusive gold at this Olympics. Although, PV Sindhu missed out on the gold by a whisker, but she brought an overwhelming wave of jubilation and celebration to the whole nation. Annual extravaganza technical and cultural festival of PEC (PECFEST'2016) in association with American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE PEC) student chapter celebrated the same spirit with the living legend Sh Balbir Singh (Sr), who still holds the world record for most goals in an Olympics hockey final.
Padam Shri Balbir Singh (Sr.) bring back the memories of golden era of Indian Hockey in the jam packed auditorium during the session. He shared his experience, hard work and dedication towards the sports. Sh. Balbir Singh, Sr. enthralled students with amazing stories of his life as an Olympian, as a coach and as a hockey lover. Audience gave a thunderous applaud when he discussed that Indian flag was unfurled in 1948 Olympics after defeating none other than Britain. At that time, Sh Balbir Singh (Sr.) scored the first two goals and India won by 4-0. He also motivated the students to work harder and make India grow stronger and stronger.
The session was also graced by Sh. S.K. Gupta, Senior Sports Sociologist, and his family members including his daughters and grandson. They also discussed various achievements of Sh Babir Singh. In the end, Dean Student Affairs Prof. P.J. Singh, Faculty Advisor Prof H.A.S Sandhu and Prof Arshdeep Singh presented a token of appreciation to living legend Sh Balbir Singh (Sr.) The session was attended by over 300 students and was appreciated a lot.
