Indian Geotechnical Society Student Chapter, PEC was inaugurated on 28th July 2017 by the Chief Guest Prof. G L Sivakumar Babu, President, Indian Geotechnical Society, New Delhi. The inauguration took place in the presence of Dr. Siby John, HOD, Civil Department and Prof. S K Singh, Faculty Supervisor, IGS Student Chapter PEC. On this occasion, the HOD congratulated everyone and encouraged the establishments of various Indian and International Civil Engineering societies. He stressed on the importance of these student chapters as they provide a good platform for the overall improvement of students' technical skills.
This was followed by an expert lecture on Rehabilitation of Geotechnical Structures based on Failure Analysis by Prof. Babu. By sharing his own experiences, he underscored the importance of analysis of design failure and thus came up with new and innovative ways to tackle them. He stressed that learning from failures is of utmost significance in order to develop better and more economical design strategies. He congratulated the students of the civil department and wished them luck for the success of this student chapter. The event was concluded by the felicitation of the Chief Guest by the HOD, Civil department with a memento of appreciation.
