Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, takes immense pride in announcing that three of its distinguished faculty members — Prof. Alakesh Manna, Prof. Kamal Kumar, and Prof. Simranjit Singh — have been recognized among the world’s top 2% of scientists, as per the latest list released by Stanford University on September 19, 2025. The annual “World Top 2% Scientist List” identifies the most influential researchers globally across diverse scientific fields, based on their publications, citations, and impact on academic research.
Prof. Alakesh Manna, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, has been honored for his career-long contributions to research (2002–2025). With over 17 years of industrial experience and 21 years of teaching expertise, Prof. Manna has made pioneering contributions in the field of engineering. He has authored 277 research papers, holds five patents, and has guided 23 Ph.D. scholars. His research interests span design and manufacturing, advanced and micro-manufacturing, fabrication of metal matrix composites (MMCs), and environmental pollution control.
A recipient of the Prof. D.N. Trikha Excellence in Research Publication Award (2010) and the Best Research Paper Award at WCE London (2016), Prof. Manna has also authored two books. He is a Fellow of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Institution of Engineers (India).
Dr. Kamal Kumar, Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department, has once again earned this global recognition. Previously featured in the “Author’s Single Year List – 2024,” this marks the fifth consecutive year that he has been acknowledged among the world’s leading scientists. His path-breaking research focuses on magnesium-based biodegradable implants, including bone scaffolds, microstructure refinement, and multi-layered surface coatings designed to control the degradation rate of such implants. His continued recognition underscores his consistent contributions to innovation in biomedical materials.
Prof. Simranjit Singh, from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, has been recognized for his research in Optical Communication, Networks, and Antenna Design. Prof. Singh is also the driving force behind PEC’s 5G Use Case Lab, which recently secured the First Position among 100 5G Labs in India. Reflecting on his achievement, he shared, “In the coming years, we aim to organize more 5G-related activities, develop new use cases, encourage startup collaborations, and expand our innovation ecosystem at PEC.”
The PEC community celebrates the remarkable achievements of these eminent faculty members and extends heartfelt congratulations to them for bringing global recognition to the institute. Their dedication and excellence continue to inspire students, researchers, and peers alike.
