Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh is observing Industry-Academia Interaction week from September 23-27, 2024. Department of Aerospace engineering of PEC also organized Industry Academia Expert Lecture Week by inviting experts from diverse fields of Aerospace Engineering and Aviation such as Sh. Aurobindo Handa (former Director General, AAIB, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Govt of India), Sh. Kulinder P. Singh (INSA Senior Scientist, Mumbai), Sh. Vivek Kalotra (Regional Director, CEMILAC, Chd), Sh. K.P. Singh (Ex-Chief Designer, HAL), Dr R.S. Pant (Ex-HAL and Professor – IIT Bombay) and Sh. Vikrant Satya (Former Scientist and Project Director, DRDO).
The second day of the Industry-Academia Week at PEC featured two highly informative lectures. Sh. Kulinder P. Singh, Senior Scientist at INSA, delivered an inspiring talk on “Making an X-ray Telescope for India's First Observatory in Space.” He shared his journey of creating India’s first space observatory, addressing the technical challenges and milestones achieved along the way. His focus on precision optics and thermal management provided students and faculty with a deeper understanding of the cutting-edge innovations driving space exploration.
Following this, Sh. Vivek Kalotra, Regional Director at CEMILAC, presented a lecture on “Airworthiness Certification of Military Air Systems & Airborne Stores.” He explained the rigorous process of certifying military aircraft and components, ensuring they meet the highest safety and performance standards. He highlighted the evolving nature of airworthiness standards as new technologies emerge, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between engineers, regulatory bodies, and the defense sector.
Both sessions underscored the importance of technological advancements and regulatory frameworks in driving innovation in aerospace. At the conclusion of the day, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Head of the Aerospace Department, presented mementos to both Sh. Kulinder P. Singh and Sh. Vivek Kalotra as a token of appreciation.
