Punjab Engineering College hosts inspiring Mental Health and Well-Being Event for students. PEC, Chandigarh took a significant step toward prioritizing the mental well-being of its students with a thought-provoking event aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges of modern-day life. The event, held on Oct 10, featured a series of insightful panel discussions on a wide range of topics, empowering students to conquer obstacles, foster resilience, and enhance their overall mental health.
Themed “Manthan: A Journey of Self-Discovery”, the event brought together students, faculty, and mental health experts to engage in meaningful conversations about the issues that matter most to today's students. With a focus on holistic well-being, the event delved into several thought-provoking topics.
Dr Simmi Waraich, a senior Psychiatric Consultant who is also the Chairperson of WOMEN AND MENTAL HEALTH - Specialty Section of the Indian Psychiatric Society gave a very insightful and informative address on psychiatric issues and for the very engaging roleplay session. In this session, the students explored strategies to break free from procrastination, improve productivity, and achieve more meaningful goals. The event addressed the challenges of maintaining focus and offered insights into managing attention effectively amidst the demands of academic life. Students also learned about the science behind habit formation and strategies for building positive behaviors. The importance of a nutritious breakfast and its impact on mood and mental health were explored in detail.
This was followed by a panel discussion consisting of distinguished panelists who deliberated on a profound exploration of mental health today. The panelists for the event were: Dr. Simmi Waraich, Dr. Ashwin Mohan, Dr. Ashish Sharma, Prof. Divya Bansal, Mr. Naveen Kumar. Experts shared insights into decision-making and how to avoid common thinking errors that can lead to irrational choices. Recognizing anxiety patterns and effective strategies for managing anxiety were discussed. The event provided guidance on overcoming addiction to substances like alcohol and cigarettes, as well as addictive behaviors related to social media. Nurturing Parental Relationships: Students learned strategies for managing conflicts and nurturing healthy relationships with their parents.
PEC was honored to host a diverse panel of experts, including accomplished psychologists, educators, and counselors, who shared their knowledge and experiences to empower students to prioritize their mental health.
