Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh is organising a one-week long internship cum training programme for B. Tech third year students of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi. The programme, which started on 7th August, 2023, and is scheduled to end on 14th August, 2023, is taking place at Production and Industrial Engineering Department in collaboration with University School of Automotive and Robotics, Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi.
The convener of the programme is Prof. R.S. Walia, Head, Production and Industrial Engineering Department, PEC and the course coordinators are Dr. Mohit Tyagi, Dr. Rahul O. Vaishya from PEC and Dr. Sumit Chaudhary, R. K. Arya from USAR, GGSIPU.
It is the first programme under the MoU that was signed between Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi. The programme is being held in hybrid mode.
Thirty-six students from USAR, GGSIPU undergoing this internship visited Siemens Centre of Excellence and Production and Industrial Engineering Department of PEC for offline training in automation and Computer Numerical Control (CNC). They gained practical, hands-on experience working with hydro-prismatic and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) based automation systems. The students also participated in training sessions focusing on CNC Trainer and CNC Milling Machines. Moreover, the students had the opportunity to explore the Smart City Operations Centre, Metallurgy Lab, and Semiconductor Research Centre thus gaining valuable exposure to a research-oriented mindset.
On 11th August 2023, Prof. Baldev Setia, Director, PEC interacted with the students undergoing the internship. During this interaction, the students shared their overall experience and provided valuable feedback. Additionally, Prof. Baldev Setia expressed optimism about the prospect of fostering further collaborative research endeavours between the two institutes.
