An External Peer Review Committee composed of various eminent personalities, accomplished in their fields, today started their three-day visit to the campus of Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) Chandigarh. The peer review committee is chaired by Dr Satish Kumar, Chairman, Armaments Research Board, Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), Ministry of Defence, GOI. The other members of the Committee are Dr Pushvinder Jit Singh, Managing Director, Tynor Orthotics Pvt. Ltd., Prof. Keya Dharamvir, General Secretary, Society for Promotion of Science &Technology in India, Prof. Lalit Kumar Awasthi, Director, NIT Uttarakhand, Shri Sanjay Tondon, eminent citizen, Dr Col (Retd) Prabhdeep Singh Sandhu, an alumnus, Ex-Secretary to VC Panjab University, Chandigarh. The visit aims to evaluate the academic and administrative functioning and prepare a roadmap for the institute.
The three-day visit started with a detailed presentation made by Prof. Baldev Setia, Director of PEC about the Institute. He apprised the committee members of the functioning of PEC. He highlighted the strengths, shortcomings, challenges and future goals of Punjab Engineering College. He also emphasised on certain reforms, steps and initiatives that are already being taken by PEC to excel in the existing NIRF ranking framework.
The day progressed with the committee visiting the Central Facilities, including Computer Centre, Library, Career Development & Guidance Centre, Semiconductor Research Facility, and Central Research Facility. The committee also visited the student hostels and sports complexes of the institute.
The first day concluded with comprehensive presentations made by the Deans, apprising the committee members about their respective domains. The sessions were interactive, creating a platform for best of minds to engage with each other on important topics regarding PEC in an innovative manner.
