Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University) celebrated the 12th National Voters Day (NVD), with the theme “Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participative” on 25th January. In accordance with the letter issued by the Election Commission of India, PEC conducted the NVD pledge in the Senate Hall on 25th January at 11 am which was graced by the presence of the Dr. Baldev Setia - Director of PEC. The event was attended by the Deans, HODs of respective departments and Administrative staff with all Covid protocols being diligently followed.
The pledge was broadcasted online via Zoom for students of PEC to witness and repeat the pledge, with over 800 members in audience. The Director, Dr. Baldev Setia and Dean of Student of Affairs, Dr. Sanjeev Kumar spoke about the virtue of the establishment of this day and how it aimed at the significance of individual voter’s right to choose their political leaders. The pledge emphasized the need to cherish democratic traditions of the country and to carry out free, fair and peaceful elections with dignity, fearlessness and void of religious, racial, casteist, lingual and communal influences. The pledge was carried out successfully and acted as a reminder for the citizens to vote.
The Election Commission of India also encouraged educational institutions to partake in public events like debates, discussions and competitions including painting, skit, dance, essay etc in an online mode to uphold the importance of NVD and impart its awareness amongst the citizens and students.
